Do blockout curtains block 100% of light?
The fabric itself blocks effectively all light passing through it. In a real room, the small amount of light you see usually comes in around the edges, so we fit blockout curtains wider and taller than the window with side returns to close those gaps. For complete darkness we can also recommend a pelmet or wrap-around track.
Do blockout curtains keep a room cooler?
Yes. A dense, lined blockout fabric slows heat moving through the glass, which helps keep rooms cooler in Auckland summers and warmer in winter. A thermal-backed blockout gives the strongest insulating effect, especially on sun-facing windows.
Can I have sheers and blockout curtains together?
Absolutely, and it is one of our most popular setups. A double track lets you hang sheers in front for soft, private daylight and blockout curtains behind for total darkness at night. We design and measure the combined system at your free in-home consultation.
What colours do blockout curtains come in?
Blockout fabrics come in a wide range of neutrals and deeper tones. Importantly, lighter colours can still be fully blockout, the light-blocking comes from the fabric construction and backing, not the colour, so you are free to choose a shade that suits your room.
How long do custom blockout curtains take?
For locally stocked fabrics, typical lead times are around 1 to 2 weeks from measure to install, with a rush service available when you need it sooner. Fully customised fabrics can take 2 to 4 weeks. We confirm exact timing with your quote.
